Miryam

Miryam

This depiction of Miryam (םירמ) features the moment mentioned in Exodus 15:20-21: “Miryam the prophet, sister of Aharon, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines, dancing, as Miryam sang to them:

“Sing to Adonai, for he is highly exalted!
The horse and its rider he threw in the sea!”

This scene shows the instant of celebration after Adonai saved Isra’el from the Egyptians. When Pharaoh fiercely pursued and cornered them, Adonai astoundingly caused the sea to go back and become dry land. Its water was divided in two and walled up for them on their right and on their left. All of the chariots and Cavalry of Pharaoh’s army perished after Adonai said to Moshe, “Reach your hand out over the sea, and the water will return and cover the Egyptians.”

The Illustration shows the waters returning in full force. There is a chariot wheel and piece of armor scattered on the beach to signify Egypt’s defeat. It shows the angel of God in the form of the column of cloud that came between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side.

When Isra’el saw the mighty deed that Adonai had performed against the Egyptians, the people feared Adonai, and they believed in Adonai and in his servant Moshe. This piece reflects the awesomeness of Adonai’s deliverance and the gratitude of Isra’el, who breaks forth in a song of praise. May this image inspire you to remember what Adonai has done for you and cause you to believe more deeply!
