Rosh Hashanah רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה by Karin Foreman features an abstract portrayal of the Jewish New Year. It contains two traditional elements of Rosh Hashanah—the shofar and the pomegranate.

Rosh Hashanah is called Yom Teruah (a Day of Blowing). Numbers 29:1 “…it is a day of blowing the horn unto you.” The central part of the day is the commandment to hear the shofar. Its blast stirs our conscience and initiates the first of the 10 Days of Penitence. It’s a time for repentance and returning to God.

Pomegranates are symbolic for fertility, prosperity and good deeds. They contain numerous seeds and we desire a year filled with equal moral deeds (mitzvot).

The piece also contains the priestly benediction (Birkat Kohahim/ברכת כהנים). which is recited on Rosh HaShanah.
