It’s been on my heart to sketch this concept for a while now. It’s about Shabbat but it includes the six days of creation that preceded it—all the beautiful things that G-d created for us to enjoy on Shabbat. By keeping the Shabbat day, we demonstrate that we believe in G-d as the Creator of the world.
This is a work in progress. I will post as I go along. It will take a while to complete it. I wear many hats these days.
Step 1 I individually sketched out elements of the creation in pencil: light, darkness, sky/heaven, waters, earth/land, vegetation, sun, moon, stars, birds, fish, animals, humans, rest. I scanned and combined all the drafts in Photoshop to find the proportions I liked best to form one visually balanced mockup.
Step 2
This step takes the longest and is considered a complete waste of time from an artistic point of view. However, I do like to get the crisp 0.1 weight stroke that is not achievable with a mechanical pencil.
Step 3 Colorizing. I used watercolor. I like the texture but overall the image might be bit too dark.
I lightened certain areas, rearranged the top elements and added the Hebrew blessing for lighting the Shabbat candles.
I love the concept Karin. I do agree it needs to be lightened up a bit.
