Shabbat of Creation celebrates the beauty and harmony of the seven days of Creation, culminating in the holiness of Shabbat. At the heart of the composition, two glowing Shabbat candles proclaim the arrival of the sacred day, reminding us that just as the Holy One rested on the seventh day, we are invited to enter His peace each week.
Every element of Bereishit (Genesis 1 and 2) is woven into the scene. Light shines from the candles, recalling the first words, “Let there be light.” The swirling heavens and waters evoke the firmament that separates the waters above from the waters below. Trees and flourishing plants represent the earth bringing forth abundant life. The sun, moon, and stars mark the appointed times, while birds soar through the heavens and great sea creatures glide beneath the waves. Land animals share creation with humanity, whose embrace reflects the sacred relationship established in Gan Eden.
Together, these symbols form a visual meditation on creation’s order, beauty, and purpose.
