Shavuot Journey is a symbolic exploration of the forty-nine-day passage between Passover and Shavuot, a journey that begins with liberation and culminates in revelation. At the heart of the composition is a sweeping, fragmented bridge composed of exactly forty-nine individual pieces, representing the forty-nine days of the Counting of the Omer. The bridge becomes both a physical and spiritual passage, carrying humanity from freedom toward responsibility, learning, and the receiving of the Torah.
Its broken construction carries an additional layer of meaning. The fractured pieces suggest the brokenness present in every human life: moments of uncertainty, struggle, loss, and incompleteness. Yet these separate fragments are brought together to form something strong enough to cross. The bridge becomes a symbol of faith and transformation, expressing the idea that God can gather the broken pieces of our lives and create from them a path forward.
A diverse procession of figures travels across the bridge. They vary in age, height, and stature, representing the collective nature of the Jewish journey. Revelation is not reserved for one type of person. Young and old, scholar and seeker, each individual stands somewhere along the path between liberation and understanding. At the center is a figure marked with horizontal stripes reminiscent of a tallit, symbolizing the scholar or teacher, one capable of interpreting and bringing order to what might initially appear incomprehensible.
Above the travelers, Hebrew letters appear to fall through the composition in an energetic cascade. They suggest divine language descending into the human world, emerging from the sacred source above and gradually taking form as law, teaching, and ultimately Torah. What appears at first to be a scattering of individual letters becomes a powerful metaphor for revelation itself: meaning is present, but it must be received, studied, interpreted, and woven into life.
At the summit of the composition, enclosed within a luminous circular form, are the four Hebrew letters Yud Hey Vav Hey, the sacred Name of God. This radiant presence overlooks the entire journey, suggesting that the movement from Passover to Shavuot is ultimately directed toward an encounter with the Divine. From this source flows both the mysterious language above and the spiritual strength that allows the travelers to continue across the fragmented bridge.
The composition moves dynamically from darkness and complexity toward light and openness.
